A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a rural home invasion southwest of Ottawa Thursday night.

Ontario police said they were called to a home on Maberly Main Street in Maberly around 10:10 p.m. after an altercation.

Police said three disguised men forced their way inside the building, where a confrontation happened between them and the male resident.

Shots were fired and the suspects fled the scene, one on foot and two headed north in an unknown vehicle.

When officers arrived, they said they found a 39-year-old man with life-threatening gunshot wounds who was taken to Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital and later airlifted to the Ottawa hospital.

One of the suspects was arrested near the home and is facing attempted murder charges.

Denny Herbery Gedanitz, 40, is also charged with impersonating a police officer, robbery with a firearm and use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence.

Police are still looking for the other two men described as six feet tall, English-speaking and wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Lanark County OPP at 613-267-2626 or 1-800-310-1122.

Maberly is about a 90 minute drive southwest of downtown Ottawa.
