Ottawa police have made an arrest in connection with a Saturday morning homicide in the city's Centretown area.
A male suspect is in custody. His identity has not been released.
Paramedics say they responded to a call at a Somerset St. rooming house near Lyon St. at around 2:20 a.m.
On arrival, they found a 37-year-old Andre Boisclair suffering from "penetrating trauma" injuries. He was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he was pronounced dead.
Boisclair had a criminal past and was known to police.
Marcel Barrette is a tenant in the house. He was waken up by the sound of screaming in the upsairs hallway.
" I heard yelling, yelling, " he said. "There’s a lot of in and out all the time."
Barrette said he saw a man being taken out on a stretcher a short time after.
Police spent hours on Saturday combing the area for clues connected to the case, which could include a potential weapon and discarded clothing.
They searched nearby Dundonald Park, as well as in laneways, under parked cars, and in storm sewers.
"We perform a grid search of the area where the crime occurred, we’re trying to locate some potential evidence," said Ottawa Police acting inspector Michel Morin.
The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
This is Ottawa's 9th homicide of the year.
