Listening to Arcade Fire—the Montreal band that shocked much of the music world by winning a Grammy for album of the year Sunday—is an inspiration for students at Canterbury High School in Ottawa's south-end.

Band member Richard Reed Parry went to the school, which is largely known for its extensive arts program.

And Monday, the day after the Grammy upset, student musicians at Canterbury were practicing and thinking that their music dreams can come true too.

The relationship between Reed and his alma mater has remained strong since the talented multi-instrumentalist left the school and found musical success.

On Jan. 20, 2007, Arcade Fire came to Canterbury and performed a private concert for students and faculty in the school's cafeteria.

Last Spring, Canterbury students reciprocated the love by producing a play based on the band's music. It was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, where it was well-received.

Arcade Fire edged out music industry heavyweights like Lady Gaga, Eminem and Katy Perry to win the Grammys' biggest award.
