OTTAWA -- COVID-19 assessment centres and testing facilities are open across Ottawa and eastern Ontario.

You can find more information about COVID-19 testing in Ottawa, including answers to frequently asked questions, at Ottawa Public Health's website.

When should I go for testing?

Ottawa Public Health says you can get a COVID-19 test at an assessment centre, care clinic, or community testing site if any of the following apply to you:

1. Symptoms:

2. Exposure:

  • You have been exposed to a person who tested positive for COVID-19:
  1. If you know when you were exposed, get tested at least 7 days after your last exposure and stay in self-isolation; if you were tested before Day 7 following exposure, a repeat test is recommended on or after Day 10 following exposure.
  2. If you have had ongoing exposure to an individual who tested positive (e.g., a household member), get tested right away. If you were tested before Day 7 of your self-isolation, a repeat test is recommended on or after Day 10 following exposure.
  • You received a COVID Alert app exposure notification; or
  • You are a resident or a worker in a setting that has a COVID-19 outbreak, as identified by Ottawa Public Health.

3. Long-term care, retirement homes, and other congregate settings:

  • You are a resident, a worker or a visitor to long-term care, retirement homes, homeless shelters or other congregate settings (for example: group homes, community supported living, disability-specific communities or congregate settings, short-term rehab, hospices and other shelters).

4. First Nations, Inuit or Métis:

  • You are a person who identifies as First Nations, Inuit or Métis; or
  • You are a person travelling to work in a remote First Nations, Inuit or Métis community.

5. Other reasons:

  • You received a preliminary positive result through rapid testing;
  • You require testing 72 hours before a scheduled (non-urgent or emergent) surgery (as recommended by your health care provider);
  • You are a patient and/or their 1 accompanying escort travelling out of country for medical treatment;
  • You are a farm worker;
  • You are an educator who cannot access pharmacy-testing; or
  • You are in a targeted testing group as outlined in guidance from the Chief Medical Officer of Health

Here is where you can go to book an appointment at assessment centres across Ottawa and eastern Ontario:

AT HOME

CHEO is now offering parents a do-it-yourself testing kit for children as demand for testing spikes this fall.

The Ottawa Public Health website outlines the instructions for the pick-up Do-It-Yourself COVID-19 Test Kit at the CHEO Clinic:

  • Appointments can only be booked for children and youth over two months of age and under 18 years old.
  • You will receive a kit with supplies, instructions and a sample registration form for you and your child to complete in the car or at home, and then drop off at the assessment centre.

A note on the website says, "We have a very limited number of walk-up appointments available to get kits. These are meant for people who don’t have access to the online booking system."

Parents can choose a date and time to pick-up the kit from the CHEO Assessment Centre at Brewer Arena.
