Residents of a high-rise apartment building run by Ottawa Community Housing say faulty elevators at the building have made it difficult for them to leave their homes.

The building, which houses mainly seniors, is 14-storeys and located in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighbourhood, west of downtown.

Residents say elevator service has been particularly bad since Christmas.

Their complaints have prompted Ottawa Community Housing to work on a plan to refurbish elevators in all their buildings.

"We do know that some of our elevators need to be refurbished," said Jo-Anne Poirier of Ottawa Community Housing. "That can be a very costly exercise and in the next few months, we'll be coming back to our board with a plan for refurbishment on our entire portfolio."
