GODERICH, Ont. - The lawyer for an accused triple murderer says his client could plead guilty to lesser charges if a plea can be negotiated with the Crown.

Jesse Imeson waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Goderich, Ont., on Monday on charges he shot and killed elderly farm couple Bill and Helene Regier in their farmhouse in Mount Carmel, Ont., last year.

Last week, Imeson also waived a preliminary hearing in the alleged strangling of Carlos Rivera of Windsor, Ont.

Imeson's lawyer, Don Crawford, says he expects there could be a resolution of the case by the time Imeson appears in Goderich court on Oct. 27 on all three first-degree murder charges.

Crawford, who is Imeson's third lawyer, said outside court that it's in the best interests of taxpayers and the victims' families if some kind of resolution is reached.

Imeson was captured after an eight-day manhunt on July 31, 2007, in a small Quebec town near the Ontario border.
