A 16-year-old, charged in relation to an attack on a female employee at the Metcalfe branch of the Ottawa Public Library in December, will undergo a psychiatric assessment ahead of determining the case's next stage.

The youth made a brief court appearance Monday. He is charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and robbery. The teen's name can't be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The late-December sexual assault in Osgoode Township prompted a safety review at the library's rural branches, with the library later looking to raise $400,000 to cover the cost of the review and new safety measures.
