It's been a hard week for the Algonquin College community.

Already reeling after the shooting death of Christina Voelzing on Easter Sunday, faculty and students learned that nursing student Tristan Nelson-Barrett died after being seriously injured in a car crash last week.

Ottawa police closed Beavertail Road in Carp for hours last Wednesday night after a single vehicle crash.

Nelson-Barrett was apparently taken off life support on Sunday. According to a gofundme page, the 47-year-old was just two months away from graduating.

In an email to the school community, Algonquin President Cheryl Jensen says she was "deeply saddened to share more difficult news in a week which has already had its share of heartbreak for our community."

The email goes on to say "As we grieve together, we must also remember and honour Tristan and Christina and all that they brought to our College community."

The college has made counsellors available to those who need them.

Funeral arrangements for both Voelzing and Nelson-Barrett have yet to be announced.
