67's forwards Tyler Graovac and Sean Monahan were released Wednesday in Team Canada's first round of cuts for the world junior championship.

The forwards are coming off tough individual stretches. Graovac has missed nine of the last 12 games with the 67's due to a groin injury. Monahan has not played with the team since Nov. 20 while he serves a 10-game suspension.

They're among five players released from Team Canada, which also include Portland defenceman Derrick Pouliot, Erie defenceman Adam Pelech, and Rimouski forward Francis Beauvillier.

Thirty-one players remain in camp, including four goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 17 forwards.

Canada's National Junior Team will be finalized on Thursday and will depart for Europe on Saturday to play two pre-competition games in Helsinki prior to the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Canada will play its first tournament game on Boxing Day against Finland.
