OTTAWA -- Ottawa recorded 60 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, nearing the four-month highs the city recorded last week.

The new cases come a day after the city recorded 15 cases, the lowest one-day increase in 10 days.

The new infections push the number of active cases above 500 in Ottawa for the first time since early May.

Last week, the city had 60 cases or more on three different days. Those totals were also the highest since early May. On Friday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said Ottawa is in a second wave of the pandemic.

Provincewide, there are 425 new lab-confirmed cases Monday, levels not seens since the beginning of June.

Ontario's health minister says two-thirds of the new case are in people under 40.

Active cases of COVID-19

There are 523 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa. That's the highest number since early May.

Ottawa Public Health reports 2,880 people have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. Just under 79 per cent of all COVID-19 cases in Ottawa are considered resolved.

Ottawa Public Health has said the actual number of infections in the city could be between five and 30 times greater than the number of laboratory-confirmed infections.

There are 10 people being treated in Ottawa hospitals for COVID-19 related illnesses, including two in the Intensive Care Unit.

  • 0-9 years old: Four new cases (172 cases total)
  • 10-19 years-old: 12 new cases (305 cases total)
  • 20-29 years-old: 24 new cases (698 cases total)
  • 30-39 years-old: Two new cases (493 cases total)
  • 40-49 years-old: Eight new cases (462 cases total)
  • 50-59 years-old: Five new cases (454 cases total)
  • 60-69-years-old: Three new cases (339 cases total)
  • 70-79 years-old: Zero new cases (239 cases total)
  • 80-89 years-old: One new case (303 cases total)
  • 90+ years: Zero new cases (213 cases total)

COVID-19 around the region

Here is a look at the new COVID-19 cases across eastern Ontario on Monday:

  • The Eastern Ontario Health Unit reported five new cases, for a cumulative total of 233.
  • The Renfrew Country and District Health Unit reported one new case, for a cumulative total of 45.
  • The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit reported one new case, for a cumulative total of 370.
