OTTAWA -- For the fifth time this week, Ottawa is seeing more than 50 new cases of COVID-19 on a single day.

Ottawa Public Health reports 55 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Saturday, along with one new death.

Eleven of the 55 new cases of COVID-19 involve residents under the age of 10, while 16 new cases were identified in residents ages 20 to 29 in Ottawa.

There are currently 484 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, the highest number of active cases since May 9.

Across Ontario, the Ministry of Health reported 407 new cases of COVID-19, including 129 in Toronto and 94 in Peel Region.

Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, there have been 3,604 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 274 deaths.

On Friday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said Ottawa is now in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the rapid rise in cases.

This week, Ottawa Public Health reported 63 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, 60 new cases on Wednesday, 52 new cases on Tuesday and 61 cases on Monday.

There are currently 11 people in Ottawa hospitals with COVID-19, including two in the Intensive Care Unit.

Active cases

There are currently 484 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa. That's the highest number of active cases in Ottawa since May 9.

Ottawa Public Health reports 2,846 people have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. A total of 79 per cent of all cases of COVID-19 are considered resolved.

COVID-19 cases by age in Ottawa

Ottawa Public Health reports 11 new cases on Saturday involve residents under the age of 10, while 16 new cases were identified in residents ages 20 to 29.

  • 0-9 years old: 11 new cases (167 cases total)
  • 10-19 years-old: Six new cases (291 cases total)
  • 20-29 years-old: 16 new cases (672 cases total)
  • 30-39 years-old: Eight new cases (492 cases total)
  • 40-49 years-old: Zero new cases (449 cases total)
  • 50-59 years-old: Six new cases (449 cases total)
  • 60-69-years-old: Three new cases (336 cases total)
  • 70-79 years-old: Three new cases (234 cases total)
  • 80-89 years-old: Two new cases (301 cases total)
  • 90+ years: Zero new cases (210 cases total)
 

 Institutional Outbreaks

Ottawa Public Health reported two new institutional outbreaks on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 outbreaks in Ottawa to 24.

New outbreaks were declared at Centre Educative Renne Tasse child care and Glebe Parent's Daycare - First Avenue Campus.

One staff member at Centre Educative Renne Tasse tested positive for COVID-19, while a child tested positive for COVID-19 at Glebe Parent's Daycare.

The outbreak at Alta Vita Manor has been declared over.

A single laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member of a long-term care home, retirement home or shelter triggers an outbreak response, according to Ottawa Public Health. In childcare settings, a single confirmed, symptomatic case in a staff member, home daycare provider, or child triggers an outbreak.
