Dozens of people tested whether they had wings Sunday during the RedBull Flugtag held on the Ottawa River.
Thirty-two teams from coast-to-coast took part in the flugtag, which is German for "flying day."
The teams strapped themselves to home-made flying machines and launched them off a nine-metre ramp over the river.
At least 50,000 people gathered behind the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau to see who could fly their homemade contraption the furthest.
Team Surf and the City from Vancouver was just three feet shy of breaking the Canadian record of 86 feet.
Others, however, weren't nearly as graceful.
Ottawa is the only Canadian stop this year on the international flugtag circuit.
Of the 32 teams, 12 were from the Ottawa region including Team Spruce Goose.
"When we came up to that edge, it was pretty imposing, actually," said Andy Mason Team Spruce Goose.
When asked if they would compete again next year, fellow team mate James Dolan replied, "Absolutely. I mean, I want to do it (again) right now!"
And while most of these human-powered fliers didn't get very far, the free event made for great entertainment for the crowds.
The top prize was a pilot's training course.
