Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a head-on crash between a car and a pick-up truck west of Carleton Place on Tuesday afternoon.

OPP say on social media that officers responded to the crash at around 8:15 a.m. on Highway 7 in Lanark, approximately 70 kilometres west of Ottawa.

Police said in an update on Wednesday afternoon that two drivers, a 23-year-old from London, Ont. and a 67-year-old from Ottawa, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Three others in the pick-up were reported to be in serious, but non-life threatening condition.

Several victims had to be extricated from the vehicles by the Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue.  All were taken to an Ottawa hospital for treatment.

Two passengers in the pick-up were 21-years-old and one was 27.

Highway 7 was closed in both directions between Ferguson Falls Road and Drummond Concession 7. Roads fully reopened shortly before 5 p.m.
