Two people were seriously injured, including a student, in a stabbing inside Hillcrest High School. CTV's Kimberley Johnson reports.

Two teenagers are facing charges in connection with a stabbing that prompted a lockdown at Ottawa’s Hillcrest High School.

Ottawa police say officers responded to reports of an assault with an edged weapon at the high school on Dauphin Road, near the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, at approximately 9:10 a.m. Monday.

A boy in his late teens was assaulted with an edged weapon, paramedics said. The victim was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition. Police say a second victim attended a local hospital on their own with serious injuries.

The two injured students were from nearby Ridgemont High School, according to the public school board.

Police said on Monday that one youth suspect was arrested when police arrived at the school. Three additional suspects were arrested during a search of the school.

On Tuesday, police announced a 16-year-old boy is facing charges of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. A 15-year-old boy is facing charges of harassment by threatening conduct and mischief.

Police say the two other youths arrested were released without charges pending further investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident at the school or has information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service’s East Criminal Investigation Section at 613-236-1222, ext. 3566.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board said there was an altercation inside the school and two students from Ridgemont High School were injured.

“The school staff immediately contacted emergency services and police and paramedics responded,” the OCDSB said in a statement on Monday.

“The school administration team activated a lockdown school procedure to ensure students and staff were safe. During a Lockdown, hallways are cleared, classroom doors are locked, and students and staff are asked to find a safe location out of sight. The lockdown is in the process of being lifted and we will shift into a secure school.”
