Ottawa Police have charged 19-year-old Adam Patrick Prevost of Ottawa with impaired driving, criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide a breath sample after that deadly crash in downtown Ottawa early Wednesday morning.
A 54-year-old man was killed in the collision that occurred at the corner of Laurier Avenue and Bank Street just before 4 a.m. Ottawa Police say a black Honda Civic was speeding west on Laurier at 3:53 a.m. when it struck a Kia Rondo travelling south on Bank, driven by the 54 year old.
Adam Patrick Prevost was arrested at the scene and charged today with impaired operation of a motor vehicle cause death, criminal negligence cause death and failure to provide a breath sample. He was scheduled to appear in court today.
Witnesses at the collision scene say the impact of the two vehicles was so violent, they thought there had been an explosion. One witness, who didn’t want to be identified, recalls seeing the driver of the Honda acting erratically.
“What I saw was a car not in the right lane and I heard squealing of tires and thought maybe he was stopping because the car was stopping up ahead of him.”
An Ottawa Police patrol car had passed the Honda and turned around to follow the vehicle moments before the collision. As a result, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit was called in to probe the incident to determine any fault on the part of the police officer involved.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
