An 18-year-old man has been killed in an overnight stabbing in downtown Ottawa.

Around 3:35 a.m. Saturday morning, police were called to Les Suites Hotel on Besserer St. in relation to a man being stabbed outside of the hotel.

Family and friends confirmed the victim is 18-year-old Brandon Volpi, a St. Patrick's Catholic High School student.

Volpi was stabbed in the neck and chest. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Volpi was celebrating his prom.

A second man who received minor injuries was treated and released from hospital.

Students outside the hotel said students from three schools, St. Patrick's, St. Joseph's and St. Pius X, were staying at Les Suites hotel at the end of their prom nights.

Brandon Volpi's father says his son was attacked by multiple young men.

He says Brandon Volpi was walking a friend back to the hotel when he was attacked.

"It's a hard thing to take, you lose your son, he's not going to come back," Volpi said. "I don't know, I don't wish this on anyone, I just want justice."

So far, no arrests have been made.

Police did not say what might have provoked the stabbing.

This is Ottawa's third homicide of the year.
