Police are hunting for the driver of a pickup after a 13-year-old narrowly avoided abduction in Russell, just east of Ottawa.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the girl was walking south on Gilles Street. Just as she turned east on to Francoise Street, a pickup driver headed westbound stopped to talk to her.

The driver briefly left, turning north on to Gilles, but then stopped and opened his door while looking back at the girl.

The girl fled east on Francoise to Caron Street, where a family member was waiting to pick her up, as the pickup drove away north on Gilles.

The suspect is described, as older, with a red wrinkled face. He had grey, neck-length hair, yellowish teeth, black glasses and was beginning to grow a beard. He also wore a black shirt.

The vehicle is described as a black, older-model possibly four-door or double cab. It had rust on a lower wheel well, a tinted window and a skeleton sticker on the driver-side rear-door window.

Anyone with information should call Ontario Provincial Police at 613-443-4499 or 1-888-310-1122.
