OTTAWA -- Ontario Lottery and Gaming is urging Ottawa residents to check your wallet, purse, nightstand and other areas of your home for any unchecked lottery tickets.

A winning lottery ticket worth $100,000 from a lottery draw one year ago remains unclaimed, and the winner has less than two weeks to claim the prize.

The winning ticket for the Encore draw in the Lotto Max draw on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 was sold in Ottawa and remains unclaimed. The winning numbers were 5, 6, 0, 1, 7, 2, 8.

OLG says players must match the last six of the seven ENCORE numbers in exact order to win the $100,000 prize. Players have one year from the draw date to claim their prize.

Another $100,000 Encore Lotto Max ticket sold in Ottawa area is set to expire on Dec. 24.

The OLG website lists unclaimed prizes worth over $10,000. There are a total of six unclaimed prizes for Ottawa and the surrounding area, including a $500,000 Lotto Max ticket from Jan. 3, 2020.

OLG Spokesperson Tony Bitonti says only a few tickets go unclaimed.

"Every year we find that a small percentage of prizes go unclaimed; and really, every year for the last three to four years, we’ve been paying out 99 per cent of the prizes," said Bitonti.

"The amount of those prizes total over $2 billion each year."

Bitoni says this time of year tickets are often forgotten about.

"People put them in, these tickets - in their junk drawers or their pockets; and, right now when we’re between seasons - when we’re going from fall to winter, people will put them in their jacket, put that fall jacket away and forget all about it," said Bitonti.

So check your fall clothing before putting it away. "We urge everyone to check anywhere that you think you many have put a lottery ticket, and see if they’ve won a prize," says Bitonti. "I would be checking junk drawers, glove compartments in your car, the visors; and, also - do check jacket pockets."

And why do tickets expire?

Bitonti tells CTV News Ottawa, "We have to basically close the books; we have to do some accounting on this. Some of the games that OLG offers are national games; and so, Lotto Max, 6/49, Daily Grand — those are games that are played from coast to coast to coast - we have to work with our other partners across the other provinces, the other lottery corporations."

He says that unclaimed prizes that expire go back into the prize pool.
