A 52-year-old woman was sent to hospital Sunday with serious injuries after a collision with an OC Transpo bus.

The incident happened shortly before noon on Sunday, August 30th, 2015 at the intersection of Woodroffe and Carling Avenues.

Witnesses say the woman was driving on the busy road instead of on the sidewalk when the incident occurred. They say she approached the bus on the right hand side as it started to pull out into the intersection after the light changed, and appeared to get stuck in the driver's blind spot.

"I had my headphones on and the bus just jumped up and you heard a crunch and I see everyone screaming," says Jason Renaux, who was on the 95 at the time of the incident.

Nancy Paavila was also on the bus and says the passengers were quick to offer a helping hand.

"Everybody got off the bus to check it out to make sure that she was okay, so that was nice to see."

This is the third collision between a car and a vehicle in less than two weeks. On August 18th a 62-year-old woman was hit by a car on Rideau Street. She suffered only minor injuries. Then, on August 24th, a 62-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when she was struck by a pick-up truck in the market.

Police are reminding drivers and pedestrians to be extra vigilant on the roads.

"Be cognizant of your surroundings, not only for people in wheelchairs but for people in vehicles, that there is pedestrian traffic," says Acting Sgt. Joseph Brownrigg.

"Be mindful of your surroundings and beware of distracted driving."

The woman was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, wheelchairs must be on the sidewalk whenever possible.

Ottawa Police are investigating.
