An elderly woman has passed away following a crash early Monday afternoon at the corner of Smyth Rd. and Haig St.
Paramedics say the woman in her 70s was driving when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree on the lawn of a home.
The woman was trapped in her vehicle and had no vital signs when emergency crews arrived shortly after 1:00 p.m.
Fire crews were able to extricate the victim and rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
It’s not yet clear if the woman suffered a medical incident before the crash.
Police closed Smyth Rd. on Monday afternoon between Saunderson Rd. and Haig St.
They are continuing to investigate.
