Ottawa paramedics are praising two volunteer firefighters from the Long Sault area for jumping in to help a child and three adults escape a burning car on the eastbound 417.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, paramedics received calls of a collision involving a vehicle on fire on the 417 Eastbound, just east of the Nicholas off ramp.

Four people, including a 12-year-old, were trapped inside the burning car.

Two volunteer firefighters from Long Sault happened to be nearby.

They broke the car’s windows, allowing the four people trapped inside to escape the flames engulfing the vehicle.

A male driver suffered minor burns to his hands, but did not want to be transported to hospital.
