The United Way of Ottawa's 2015-2016 campaign has raised nearly $16 M for children in our community.

The nonprofit says the donations will help change the lives of 56,900 people in the Ottawa area. It says money will be used to invest in more than 110 programs and other community initiatives in support of people such as at-risk youth, new Canadians, people with disabilitiesand people facing mental health and addiction issues.

"Ottawa has shown incredible support for our traditional campaign and also our new and innovative fundraising activities that give donors the ability to focus on specific work in our community — activities like the Small Change financial education app, spark women’s giving initiative, and United for Refugees,” said Danya Vere, one of the United Way of Ottawa's campaign co-chair, in a press release.

This year's fundraising total was unveiled at the Lowertown Community Resource Centre. United Way Ottawa campaign co-chairs Police Chief Charles Bordeleau and Danya Vered were on hand for the announcement.
