OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a series of charges in relation to a retail robbery on Prince of Wales Drive on September 26th. Further to the news release of October 7th, the same location was robbed two additional times.

On October 21, 2014, at approximately 1:30am, two suspects entered the gas station situated along the 1300 block of Prince of Wales Drive.  One suspect was armed with a knife and the suspects jumped the counter and made a demand for cash and cigarettes.  They fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of both of these items.  There were no injuries.

The suspects fled to a vehicle that had been reported stolen on October 19, 2014 from the 1100 block of Meadowlands Drive.

On November 24, 2015, two suspects attended the retail location on Prince of Wales in a vehicle at approximately 5:00 a.m. One suspect pumped a quantity of gas into the car and gained entry to the gas station.  Once the door was open, the second suspect entered carrying a knife and crowbar. The suspects were unable to access the employee and desired merchandise as a result of preventative steps (target hardening) undertaken by the retailer.  The suspects fled empty-handed.  A short time later, the vehicle was observed by of officers travelling along Carling Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the suspects arrested without incident.

Two youths, both males age 15 of Ottawa, are charged with the following offences in relation to the three robberies and the stolen vehicle.  Both suspects are charged jointly with the following:

  • 2 counts of Robbery
  • 2 counts of Possession of a weapon
  • 1 count of Possession over $5000

Each of the suspects is charged separately with two counts of Wearing a disguise in relation to the November 24 and October 21 robberies.  One of the suspects is charged with one count of Robbery in relation to the September 26, 2014 incident.

Both 15-year-old suspects appeared in court on November 25 and remain in custody at this time.

On November 26, 2014, an additional suspect was arrested in relation to this investigation. Thuy-Duong DAO, age 33 of Ottawa, is charged with one count of Robbery, one count of Wearing a disguise and one count of Possession of a weapon in relation to the September 26, 2014 incident. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 26, 2014.
