They named him Treize, French for 13.
It was hoped the name would be lucky. But there was to be no happy ending for Treize the dog.
On Monday evening the SPCA de l'Outaouais announced via Facebook that Treize didn't make it.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Treize died this morning" the organization wrote in French. They went on to thank the public, saying Treize received plenty of love in his final days.
On Friday the 13th, the boxer-mix was brought into the S.P.C.A. de l’Outaouais in Gatineau as a stray. Treize was so starved that he was basically a skeleton with skin. He suffered from dehydration and his muscles had atrophied. He was immediately put on an intravenous drip.
Staff say it is one of the worst cases of emaciation they have ever seen.
Treize was found wandering along Highway 303 near Shawville in the Pontiac. He had no identification.
