Thunder Bay police are investigating  an alleged sexual assualt involving more than one  player of the University of Ottawa men's hockey team. The varsity squad  played games  in Thunder Bay  on January 31 and February 1. Thunder Bay police say at some point during that away-trip a sex assault allegedly took place.

The University of Ottawa is also asking why it took so long for the incident to be reported. The alleged sex assault took place over the Feb 1 weekend. It took 3 weeks before senior staff were informed. uOttawa contacted  police February 25th. The university told  police a day later

" The incident occured several weeks ago. The university is deeply concerned that senior management was only informed about the incident on February 24th. And then, only by a 3rd party, " says Patrick Charette, uOttawa Director of  Corporate Communications.

This is the first time in university history that an entire athletics program has been suspended.

The university has launched an internal review.

In a statement, the University said, 'The University has high expectations of all our students and staff. The alleged misconduct is not in keeping with the values that are at the heart of athletics and student life on campus.'
