Thousands of shoppers caused traffic gridlock and parking lot jams as they rushed to the opening of the new Tanger Outlets mall in Kanata.
The parking lots were so packed by mid-morning that shoppers had to park at the nearby Canadian Tire Centre and take shuttle buses to the Tanger mall.
By mid-morrning, traffic on Highway 417 westbound was backed up to Bayshore and was moving at a snail's pace.
Ottawa Police are helping to direct traffic.

Tanger Outlets in Kanata features 75 stores including Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Coach and Brooks Brothers Factory Store.
Shoppers also took advantage of Tanger Outlets coupons and opening day specials.
Nine West provided a $50 gift card to the first 100 people in line.
Those cards were gone in seconds.
