Thousands gathered at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on Monday to watch the partial eclipse that was visible in Ottawa.

At approximately 1:15p.m. people in the capital region could see the moon as is began to cover the sun. The best time to view the coverage was at 2:35p.m. when 61 per cent of the sun was covered by the moon, according to astronomers at the event.

The museum handed protective glasses to the first 10000 guests, in order to safely view the eclipse. There were also solar-scopes available for viewing.

The next full solar eclipse that will be visible in our region is in 2024.

“April 8th, make sure you write that down on your calendar, it’s going to be a full eclipse coming up the Saint Lawrence Seaway, so if you’re in the Kingston, Cornwall, Brockville, Montreal area, event Toronto, they will get the full effect, up here we’ll get quite a bit of darkness,” said Dave Chisholm, an amateur astronomer.
