The Ottawa Senators continued their amazing run tonight as they have jumped into the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern conference thanks to an 5-2 come from behind win against the San Jose Sharks.

The Ottawa Senators broke the scoreless tie late in the first period as Mika Zibanejad scores his 18th goal of the season on a redirection set up by Mike Hoffman. The Senators would lead 1-0 after one period, with the shots even at 10 apiece.

The San Jose Sharks scored 2 quick goals in the 2nd period. Joe Pavelski opened the scoring on the power play. Then just 30 seconds later Chris Tierney beats Andrew Hammond with a backhander. The Sharks would take a 2-1 lead after 2 periods.

Early in the 3rd period the Senators tie it up. Zibanejad steals the puck from Tierney for his 2nd goal of the game, his second two goal game of the season, to tie it at 2-2.

A scare for the Senators, as Hammond is shaken up after being plowed down in the net. He would remain in the game.

The Senators continued to pressure the Sharks and their perseverance pays off. Alex Chiasson gives the Senators a 3-2 lead. Just over a minute later, a 2 on 1 turns into a 3 on 1, as Jean Gabriel Pageau finishes it off for a 4-2 lead.

Zibanejad would leave late in the game after being hit by the puck. He didn’t return.

Mike Hoffman added an empty netter for a 5-2 final. Hammond with 29 saves for the victory.

The Senators are 15-1-1. The Senators remain one point up on Boston and 3 points back of Washington in the East.

The Senators next host the New York Rangers Thursday.
