Canada's most successful varsity men's basketball coach is taking a break.

After guiding the Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team to 10 National University titles in 12 years, head coach Dave Smart has decided to take a leave of absence for the 2015-2016 season.

Smart is taking the season off to spend more time with his young family. He will continue his role as assistant coach of the Senior Men’s National team.

Rob Smart, a former star with the Carleton Raven’s will serve as interim head coach for the 2015-2016 season.

Smart recently helped guide the Canadian Senior Men's National Team to their best-ever Pan Am finish by earning a silver medal at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.

Smart is now focusing on the 2015 FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico City. A top two finish will guarantee the Senior Men's National Team an automatic berth to the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
