You might want to mark Dec 4th on your calendar. That’s when former Ottawa Senators Captain Daniel Alfredsson is returning to the capital, where it is expected he will announce his retirement. The Senators will have just returned from a 5 game road trip, where they will be hosting the New York Islanders.

Ticket sales for Dec 4th are already brisk, in anticipation of the announcement. The Ottawa Senators and Alfredsson are expected to confirm the speculation in the next few days.

Alfredsson spent 17 seasons in Ottawa until leaving to play for the Detroit Red Wings last season. Alfredsson, who will soon turn 42, has been plagued by back problems and hasn’t played a single game this season.

Earlier this week, Senators General Manager Bryan Murray and Alfredsson went for a long drive in Detroit, clearly both parties wanting to put their bitter contract dispute behind them.

Head coach Paul Maclean says “It will mark the end of an era” if Alfredsson retires.

This might not be the end of Alfredsson in the Capital, as there is some speculation that the Senators will offer the former captain a management position within the Ottawa Senators organization.
