A 25-year-old man from Smiths Falls was swept into the Atlantic Ocean at Peggy's Cove last week.

Today, his family says they plan to raise funds to help improve safety at the popular Nova Scotia tourist attraction.

Jamie Quattrocchi’s body has not been recovered but he is presumed dead.

He was visiting the area with his girlfriend Brittany Smith, on Wednesday. His parents say the waves picked-up suddenly and swept the young man into the water.

His girlfriend, called for help but Jamie disappeared in the water before help could arrive.

Now Smith and his family want to do something to prevent this from happening to others. They say they would like to raise funds to improve safety at Peggy’s Cove in Jamie’s memory.

“We could turn this tragedy into something positive and try to make it so other families don't have the same pain we have right now,” says Caroline Quattrocchi, Jamie’s mother.

The family has created a memorial Facebook page where they will post the details of the fundraiser once it’s finalized.
