Bell Media has confirmed that long-time Russell Township Mayor Jean Paul St. Pierre died suddenly this morning.
An official with the Township says emergency crews were called to St. Pierre's house at 8:15 a.m.
Paramedics performed CPR, but St. Pierre was pronounced dead around 9 a.m.
While there are no details on exactly how he died, his death was of natural causes.
Tina Collins the Communications Officer with the Township says St. Pierre has no known health issues.
A message was posted on the Townships Facebook page: "The Township of Russell’s Council and staff are heartbroken to confirm that our beloved Mayor, Jean-Paul St-Pierre, passed away. Our deepest condolences are extended to JP’s family, friends and loved ones."
St. Pierre was running for re-election but Collins says the Township is not ready to address what will happen in the municipal vote.
