The Rideau Centre has reopened after a power outage led to a mall closure on Monday, July 28, 2014.

The lights went out at the mall around 3 p.m. The mall was running on emergency power. More than 150 stores were closed. Stores forced to close worry about the economic impact of the closure during the busy summer season. The entire mall closed to shoppers and to pedestrian traffic around 8 p.m. Monday.

Other businesses in the Byward Market also experienced an outage Monday. But power was restored soon after.  A spokeperson for Rideau Centre said the longer mall outage was caused by a faulty hydro line underneath the Rideau centre.
