A warm October day made its way into the Ottawa record books.

As temperatures hit a high of 25 degrees by mid-afternoon, the summer-like weather knocking off the previous record set in 1956 at 24.4 degrees.

Many marked the milestone with a toast on patios across the capital.

“For middle of October it's great. I actually wanted to go on a canoe ride but they drained water on the canal. So I figured go on a patio instead,” says Alex Kalaidjian, enjoying a pint with his brother at the Heart & Crown.

The Rideau Canal crowded with runners and cyclist hoping to take advantage of the taste of summer.

“Three months we will be skating here. So for right now enjoy the cycling,” says Larry Buan.

Buan’s Fred Russell didn’t hold back, taking her shirt off for the mid-October bike ride.

“This is a gift. You can't have enough of this stuff,” says Russell.

At Abby Hill Farms, the warm weather is great for business as they stay opened every day until the end of the month. Offer train and pony rides and the weekends and a wide selection of pumpkins for Halloween.

“We have to enjoy what this time of year offers you,” says Miranda Gonzales who brought her son Diego to the pumpkin patch for the very first time.

According to Environment Canada, the average high for this time of year is only 13 degrees.

Fall in Ottawa, feeling more like Florida, where Tampa Bay temperatures settled in at around 27 degrees.
