VICTORIAVILLE, Que. - Sergey Kostenko stopped all 42 shots he faced as Russia defeated the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League squad 2-0 on Monday in the opening game of the Subway Super Series.

The six-game series is being used as a tune-up for this year's world junior hockey championship in Calgary and Edmonton.

The Russians will also compete against teams from the Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League.

The series now moves to Quebec City followed by games in Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Regina and Moose Jaw, Sask.

Kirill Rasskazov and Bogdan Potekhin scored the goals for Russia, which includes 22 players from that country as well as nine who are currently playing in the QMJHL, OHL and WHL.

Canada has won every series since 2003 with the exception of last year, when the Russian took it four games to two.

Maxime Lagace finished with 10 saves on 12 shots for Team QMJHL.
