Police in Quebec are searching for a 23-year-old Algonquin College student who is believed to have drowned in the Gatineau River.

Police restarted their search early Friday morning after suspending it Thursday morning. MRC des Collines are currently waiting for police divers to arrive from Quebec City.

The drowning suspect was about to enter third year at Algonquin College. Police say he is from Zimbabwe. His parents, who currently live in South Africa, have been notified and are on their way to Canada.

The man was with at the Wakefield covered bridge around 7:30 p.m. Thursday when he somehow fell off and into the water. Police say the man was a weak swimmer.
