Garrison Petawawa is no stranger to tragedy or adversity.

When an attack occurs on a member of the military family so close to home, things are different.

"Living in Canada, you see it happen all over the world and just don't think it will happen this close to home," says town resident Ashley Devine.

Garrisons across the country are under orders of heightened security in light of the attack in Ottawa. Soldiers who were ordered to only wear their uniforms in military buildings, now being asked to keep public exposure to a minimum.

"With these recent attacks I've ordered that force protection measures at bases and wings across Canada be increased," says General Tom Lawson, Chief of Defence Staff.

In this military town, the raised security makes the threat real. Still, it is a necessity they fully understand.

"We live in a military community. A lot of troops here so we could be a high risk area. We don't know," says Petawawa resident Doug Armstrong.
