An Ottawa woman who was feared missing in Nepal has contacted her family and let them know she is safe.

Her family says she has suffered injuries, and has been flown to Kathmandu. The extent of her injuries are not immediately known, but her family believes she will be able to recover.

32-year-old Faye Kennedy had been trekking in Langtang National Park, about 65 kilometres north of Kathmandu, when the earthquake struck on Saturday.

Her family had not heard from her since Monday, and knew she was travelling to the remote area. They had not expected to hear from her again for several days, but since Saturday's quake, they became very concerned when no contact had been made.

She finally reached them on Monday via email. Her sister said in her email, Kennedy told them she was "incredibly lucky to be okay," and that the two other women she had been travelling with are also safe.

At least one person from Ottawa is still missing. Sam Caldbick was in the same area as Kennedy. He has not yet been heard from.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says an estimated 388 Canadians are currently in Nepal.
