Three Ottawa researchers working to find a cure for cancer and other diseases were honoured at the Ottawa Hospital Gala Saturday.
Dr. John Bell received a career achievement award for discovering that certain types of viruses attack and kill cancer cells. Dr. Lynn Megeny was named Researcher of the Year for his work in regenerative medicine.
His research challenges the notion that certain tissues can't regenerate or heal.
"Any advances we make, the City of Ottawa will be the first to benefit," said Megeny upon accepting his award.
The doctors were joined by Ph.D student Melissa Bowerman, who received the Researcher-in-Training award.
In order to further the work of these and other researchers, the Ottawa Hospital Foundation has raised over $2 million this year from its various fundraisers.
