Ottawa police say no charges will be laid in the tragic death of 40 year old cyclist during the Ride the Rideau event in September, 2014.
Laurie Strano was an experienced triathlete and mother of two young children, and was engaged to be married at the time of her death.
The road was wet, and the Ottawa Hospital Foundation has been reviewing safety protocols for the event. Roads were not closed for the 900 cyclists participating in the ride.
There is still an ongoing coroner’s investigation into Strano’s death that could lead to recommendations on how to avoid injuries and deaths in similar circumstances.
