KINGSTON, Ont. -- Kingston police have charged a 44-year-old man after he allegedly reversed a vehicle outside of a convenience store, narrowly missing a mother and young child, and struck a pedestrian on the other side of the street.

Police say a black SUV was reversing out of a parking lot Tuesday night (on Division Street and Stephen Street) and continued reversing at high speed despite the close call.

They say the driver fled the scene after it struck a 19-year-old pedestrian, who was facing away from the SUV.

Police say the vehicle drove over the man and dragged him a short distance before he was released.

He suffered multiple serious injuries and was brought to hospital.

Daniel A. Fulton is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm and failure to remain.
