Ottawa Police have arrested one person and a criminal investigation has been opened following fire on St Joseph Boulevard.

One man was arrested on scene following a "dispute" that police say led to the fire. The exact cause of the fire is unclear at this point.

Multiple calls came in shortly after 7:30 a.m. reporting fire and smoke from a home at 3275 St. Joseph Blvd, near Tenth Line Road. Shortly after crews arrived- a second alarm fire was called. The fire was under control by 11:30 Sunday, January 31.

The man in custody, one other person and a firefighter were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Jocelyne Parker lives in the unit next door and says she left her home with nothing but her purse, pyjamas and a coat.

"I ran outside and my neighbours were outside saying there is a lady screaming and you could see the smoke and flames coming out and then there was an explision. It was just nerve-wrecking."

Community associations, including the Salvation Army, and the Red Cross, were on hand to offer assistance. OC Transpo buses were provided to keep residents warm. Police say approximately 30 people were displaced, but for how long is unknown.

"I need medication and it's all inside my unit and I can't get it," said Parker.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

No charges have been laid.
