A man was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries Saturday morning after a serious collision on Highway 174.

Ottawa Fire Services responded to a call that a van had rolled several times near Jeanne D’arc Blvd and Montreal Rd around 9:45a.m.

Crews said two people were trapped inside the vehicle and began stabilizing and extricating procedures.

Ottawa Police said a 61-year-old man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. A 60-year-old woman was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“The driver, who is a male, and the female passenger were driving eastbound and lost control of the vehicle and it went through the westbound traffic as well and rolled over,” said Duty Insp. Mark Patterson.

Traffic was snarled on the 174 for multiple hours as police closed off both the east and westbound lanes for their investigation.

Patterson said at this time investigators believe it was likely medical related.

Police said both passengers are still in hospital but that the man’s condition had been upgraded to serious but stable.

The highway was open by 2p.m.
