Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 17 west of Arnprior.

Police responded to a collision around 4:30 a.m. Friday morning on Highway 17 at Calabogie Road in McNab-Braeside Township involving six vehicles.

A 39-year-old woman from Arnprior was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 38-year-old male and 34-year-old female from Renfrew were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police say visibility in the area was poor when the collision occurred.

“There was a heavy fog at the time - that’s why we’re reminding people because of change of season, the road conditions and weather conditions will be changing,” said Cst. Guy Prevost.

Police had closed highway 17 between Calabogie Road and White Lake Rd., near Arnprior for several hours, as part of the investigation. The road was re-opened late Friday evening.

Lynda Fraser, who lives nearby, says collisions on this stretch of road are too common.

“We’ve been here for 16 years and there is at least two or three a year, somewhere between Calabogie Rd. & Arnprior.”

In this case, the crash scene so chaotic, police spent hours to determine which vehicle all of the injured were in.
