Two men suffered heart attacks while attempting to remove snow Tuesday.
Paramedics say they responded to a call at 10:20 a.m. after a 52 year old man suffered a heart attack and collasped in his driveway at his eastend home. The man was having difficulty breathing and had discomfort in his chest. A family member called 9-1-1.
The man was transported to hospital and is in serious condition.
A 2:30 pm, paramedics received another call for a man who has also collapsed in his driveway in his Britannia area home while using a snow blower. When paramedics arrived, the man was without vital signs, and a witness nearby started CPR.
The man is in crictical condition in hospital.
Paramedics want to remind citizens to be careful shovelling heavy snow and to stop activity immediately if experiencing shortness of breath or has chest discomfort.
Paramedics offer snow shovelling tips:
- warm up first
- try to push the snow, not lift it
- pace yourself
- keep well hydrated
