Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital’s emergency department is getting a facelift.

Health Minister Eric Hoskins announced Friday the government is investing up to $8.75 million to build a new 9,000 square foot facility at the back of the hospital that is expected to improve access to emergency care, enhance infection control standards, accommodate higher-level diagnostic and therapeutic tests, as well as reduce patient wait times.

The project has an estimated cost of $9.99 million so the hospital will contribute the remaining $1.24 million.

Details of the project still need to be finalized so there’s no word on when construction will begin.
