More than 1,000 people in Ottawa sat down to a volunteer-run thanksgiving dinner at Sir Guy Carleton High School on Sunday.

A bulk of the volunteers were students from Woodroffe, Merivale, Sir Guy Carleton, and Brookfield High School who came together to feed some of the Capital's less fortunate residents.

"Some people, like myself, can't afford thanksgiving meals," said Edward Albert. "It takes a lot of burden off your shoulders."

Albert, like so many others, could walk away with more than just a meal. They could also pick up groceries and clothing.

Laidlaw Transit went to five pickup and drop-off locations across the city to bring people to and from the dinner.
