STONINGTON, Maine - The U.S. Coast Guard says a Quebec man who disappeared while kayaking in Maine has been found safe and uninjured.

Officials say 46-year-old Tony Cashman of Wakefield , Que., was part of a group of six kayaking from Isle au Haut to Marshall Island on Saturday.

After the rest of the group made it to Marshall Island but couldn't find Cashman, the Coast Guard sent a helicopter from Massachusetts, and a lifeboat and a cutter were sent to search by sea.

Rescue crews, including Maine Marine Patrol, searched overnight and continued searching Sunday morning.

Petty officer Kurt Hein told WCSH-TV that Cashman stopped at Saddleback Island, built a fort and decided to wait until daylight to find help.

On Sunday morning, he paddled back to the spot in Stonington where the group had rented their kayaks.
