The Stars shined brightly tonight in Ottawa as the Dallas Stars cruised to a 6-3 victory over the Senators in Jason Spezza’s return to the Capital.

The former Senators captain received a standing ovation by fans after a touching video tribute. Moments later the Stars went to work. Jamie Benn opens the scoring on the power play. Just one minute later Colton Sceviour beats Robin Lehner for a 2-0 lead. Under 4 minutes later, former Senator Ales Hemsky makes it 3-0 on the man advantage.

The Senators come to life late in the period. Mika Zibanejad scores his 12th goal of the season to trail 3-1. With one and a half minutes left in the period, Senators on the power play, Cody Ceci takes the shot, Bobby Ryan bangs in the rebound to trail 3-2 after one period.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Senators tie it up early in the 3rd period. Alex Chiasson scores his first goal in 17 games making it 3-3.

The Stars regain the lead for good, courtesy of a costly turnover by Mike Hoffman. John Klingberg goes in alone for a 4-3 lead.

The Stars add 2 more goals, both 200 footers into an empty net. They were both shorthanded goals as the Stars win 6-3.

The Senators next host the Phoenix Coyotes Saturday.
