Nearly 50,000 people are expected to take to the streets this weekend for the 41st edition of the Tamarak Ottawa Race Weekend.

The event attracts the world's elite athletes, running enthusiasts, and pours tens of millions of dollars into the local economy.

When Ian Bennett lines up for his 25th marathon, he won't be doing it alone. The Ottawa resident and longtime runner is set to run the marathon with his daughter, Erin.

"We are going to start together that's for sure, and hopefully finish together," he said.

More than 48,000 people are expected to take part in the six races this weekend, which include a Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K , 2K and a kid's run. Last year's event raised  $626,288.15 for more than 30 charities.

Thousands of runners, means a big bump for local businesses. According to Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, race weekend generally brings about $32 million to the local economy.
